The spirit of Rotaract knows no bounds, and our own Club Advisor and Past President, Wael Merhi, embarked on an exceptional journey that exemplified this truth. His destination was the vibrant nation of Uganda, and he became the first Rotaract Aley member to venture into the heart of this East African gem.

Wael explored breathtaking landscapes and immersed himself in the vibrant culture of Uganda. From the majestic Murchison Falls to the serene beauty of Lake Bunyonyi, every step he took echoed the essence of Rotaract, a journey of discovery and unity.

Wael's classrooms were the Erijukiro Cultural Museum and Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru, where he absorbed the history and traditions of Uganda. Through these experiences, he not only broadened his cultural horizons but also carried the Rotaract Aley legacy with him, embodying the true spirit of international camaraderie.

Venturing into the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Wael witnessed the raw beauty of Africa's diverse wildlife. The Gaddafi Mosque and Uganda's equator point became symbolic markers of his journey, where the Rotaract spirit united people from different corners of the world under the same African equator.

Tooro Kingdom

Wael's journey was punctuated by meaningful exchanges, with four flag ceremonies conducted and a special one with a Rotaract club sponsored by the first Rotary club in the world, the Club of Paul Harris.

Wael's visit to Makerere University and the Rotary Peace Center, inaugurated on January 9, 2020, and officially opened by Rotary International President Jennifer Jones (22-24), showcased his dedication to education and peace. As Rotaract Aley made its mark at the only Peace Center in Africa and one of the eight globally, Wael stood as a testament to our club's commitment to making a lasting impact.

Wael's journey serves as a potent reminder that the spirit of service and exploration knows no geographical boundaries. It leaves us wondering - where will the Rotaract Aley flag fly next?
