Disaster Relief

In the heart of Rotaract Club of Aley’s commitment to supporting displaced individuals and communities, the Disaster Relief project stands as a testament to collaboration and empathy. Under the leadership of Community Service Director Karine Ichtay, Rotaract Club of Aley partnered with Rotary Hammana to bring warmth and comfort to 220 displaced children in five schools across the Aley region.

This initiative, a collaboration between Rotaract Aley and Rotary Hammana, focused on providing essential winter accessories—hats, gloves, and scarves—to ensure that children had the necessary warmth and protection during the cold season. The project served as a reminder of the power of collaboration, with the Rotary Hammana club providing the winter clothing items, while Rotaract Aley handled the distribution and coordination efforts.

Tackling Urgent Needs

As the harsh winter months approached, Rotaract Aley and Rotary Hammana recognized the urgent need to support displaced children, who were especially vulnerable to the cold. Many of these children, affected by the ongoing conflict, lacked access to basic winter clothing. These simple items—hats, gloves, and scarves—are crucial in preventing cold-related health issues and providing these children with the comfort and security they deserve.

AddressingRotary Areas of Focus

The Disaster Relief project directly addresses Peace building and Conflict Resolution,as it focuses on supporting displaced children who have faced the trauma of war and conflict. In addition, it aligns with Community Economic Development by improving the well-being of these vulnerable families, providing essential winter clothing to children who may not have access to such necessities otherwise.

ProjectPlanning and Implementation

The planning for this project involved close coordination with school representatives to identify the specific needs of the students. Once the winter accessories were sourced through Rotary Hammana, the team of 5 dedicated members from Rotaract Aley organized the distribution of the items, ensuring that each child received the proper warmth to face the winter chill.

In addition to the distribution of winter clothing, the project included snack distribution and interactive games for the children, fostering a sense of joy and community, and reminding them that despite their difficult circumstances, they are cared for and supported.

Impact and Legacy

This project was not just about providing physical warmth but about offering a sense of comfort and solidarity. The initiative highlighted the commitment of Rotaract Aley and Rotary Hammana to respond to the needs of displaced children, ensuring they feel safe and supported during the harsh winter months.

By providing these children with basic winter clothing, Rotaract Aley and Rotary Hammana are helping to ensure that these young ones can focus on their education and personal growth, without the burden of cold-related health issues. This is part of a larger vision of providing long-term support to displaced individuals, making a meaningful difference in their lives during a time of crisis.
