On February 21st, in celebration of International Mother Language Day, the Rotaract Club of Aley launched a heartwarming international project titled Speaking Our Roots. This initiative brought together six Rotaract clubs from across the globe—Egypt, Morocco, Brazil, Venezuela, Turkey, and Lebanon—in a shared effort to celebrate diversity, promote peace, and foster global unity through language.
The concept was simple yet powerful: members from each club would say key Rotaract words—like peace, service, leadership, and love—in their native languages. These clips were then beautifully compiled into a single video that was shared widely online. The result? A vibrant tapestry of voices and languages that resonated with nearly 4,000 viewers worldwide.
This project was more than just a video. It was a symbol of what Rotaract stands for—understanding, friendship, and unity beyond borders. By showcasing cultural pride and linguistic heritage, the project reminded us how our differences don’t divide us—they strengthen us. It celebrated the beauty of diversity and the universal values we all share, no matter where we come from.
Spearheaded by Simar Ghaida, our International Understanding Director, the project brought together 12 dedicated members across continents who worked tirelessly to plan, film, and edit the final piece. Their teamwork has already sparked conversations about future collaborations and twinning opportunities, proving that one small idea can inspire long-term international bonds.
As we reflect on the success of this initiative, we’re reminded that Rotaract is not just about service—it’s about people, stories, and shared humanity. Speaking Our Roots wasn’t just a project. It was a legacy in the making.
